Well Visits

for the healthy kid

Regular well-child visits are one of the most important things you can do to keep your child healthy. Preventive care promotes healthy growth and development. At a well visit, the doctor will do comprehensive exams that are important to your child’s overall health and well-being.

During this visit, you can also discuss any questions or concerns you may have about your child’s health.

Check-Ups

When it comes to helping your child live a happy, healthy life, yearly check-ups are crucial. Although some parents assume that well visits aren’t necessary, the fact is that those are designed to keep your child healthy. Regular exams help doctors understand what is normal for your child.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies have their first check-up 3-5 days after birth, then at 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, and 12 months. After that, toddlers should be seen at 15, 18, 24 and 30 months. From 3 to 18 years old, they should come in once a year.

Toddlers Through
Age 10

When your child turns three year old is officially a toddler. At this age, the routine well-child check-ups monitor growth and development, vaccinations, and disease management for toddlers and children with specific chronic conditions like asthma. We also provide screenings for hearing loss, vision problems, and scoliosis. During these years, their physical growth and motor development will decrease. Still, you can expect to see some tremendous intellectual, social, and emotional changes.

Pre-teens and Adolescents

At Parra Pediatrics, we understand the changing needs of pre-teens and adolescents. As part of wellness exams for this age group, we screen for behavioral health concerns that can be triggered at this time, such as depression, anxiety, or substance abuse.
Teen health exams may also include discussions on:

  • Eating habits
  • Physical activities
  • Fighting and violence
  • Sex and sexuality
  • Menstrual cycle
  • Safety and driving
  • Skincare and acne
  • HPV vaccination
  • CRAFFT Screens
