Newborn care

for the little bundles of joy

Let’s start from the begining

Congratulations! You have a baby! Having a newborn baby to care for is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. Right after birth, babies need many necessary tests and procedures to ensure their health. Babies need to go to the doctor for a check-up six times during their first year of life to make sure he/she is healthy and developing normally.
It is natural to have lots of questions. Whether those are about breastfeeding, nursing, sleep schedules, or tracking milestones, we can help, so let us answer them and try to put your mind at ease! Parents are welcome to come for a prenatal visit as well to meet with us and see the office. Reach out to us today to make your appointment.

First Visit

Your baby’s first doctor’s visit occurs during his or her first week of life, usually 1-2 days after you are discharged from the hospital.

During your baby’s first visit, the doctor will discuss your labor and delivery and any complications you experienced. They also enter medical information about your health and your family’s health history. At this visit, we:

  • Check your baby’s weight
  • Monitor for signs of jaundice
  • Check to see how your baby is feeding
  • Answer questions about your new baby
  • Check pulse, respiration, and temperature.
  • Give Immunizations if not given at the hospital

Regular Checks

Regular well-child visits are one of the most important things you can do to keep your baby healthy. Well-child visits also allow you to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about your baby’s health.
We recommend that your child should have a well-child visit at the following intervals:

  • 2 WEEKS VISIT
  • 2 MONTH VISIT
  • 4 MONTH VISIT
  • 6 MONTH VISIT
  • 9 MONTH VISIT
  • 12 MONTH VISIT
  • 15 MONTH VISIT
  • 18 MONTH VISIT
  • 24 MONTH VISIT
  • 30 MONTH VISIT

Vaccines

Infants and young children need vaccines because the diseases they protect against can strike at an early age and can be very dangerous in childhood. This includes rare diseases and more common ones, such as the flu. As a pediatrician, Doctor Parra recommends and does what is in the best interest of his patients based on scientific evidence.

It is of the utmost importance to follow the immunization schedule. Delaying vaccines only leaves a child at risk of disease for an extended period. Immunizations are one of the most effective approaches we have for preventing disease.
