El sistema inmunitario de nuestro cuerpo ayuda a proteger contra pat\u00f3genos que causan infecciones. O bien mantiene los microorganismos fuera o los rastrea y se deshace de ellos. Sin embargo, a veces el cuerpo no reconoce algunos de estos pat\u00f3genos. Cuando esto sucede, puede causar enfermedades graves. La vacunaci\u00f3n es una forma de “ense\u00f1ar” al sistema inmunitario c\u00f3mo identificar y eliminar dichos pat\u00f3genos. De esa manera, tu cuerpo est\u00e1 preparado si alguna vez est\u00e1 expuesto.\n<\/p>\n

\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 necesitamos vacunas?\"\"<\/h1>\n

Cuando nace tu beb\u00e9, su sistema inmunitario no est\u00e1 completamente desarrollado, lo que lo pone en mayor riesgo de enfermedades. Las vacunas ayudan a proteger a los ni\u00f1os(as) contra enfermedades que otras personas podr\u00edan introducirles, trabajando con las defensas naturales de su cuerpo para ayudar a desarrollar inmunidad a una enfermedad. Algunas vacunas requieren una dosis de seguimiento, que ayuda a reforzar las defensas de su hijo(a). Las vacunas no s\u00f3lo protegen a las personas, cuando hay suficientes personas vacunadas, ayuda a proteger a la sociedad. Recomendamos encarecidamente que los ni\u00f1os(as) reciban sus vacunas a tiempo, ya que est\u00e1n programadas para protegerlos cuando son m\u00e1s vulnerables y cuando las vacunas producir\u00e1n una respuesta m\u00e1s fuerte. Las vacunas no causan autismo, ni “abruman” el sistema inmunitario de su hijo(a). Pero no dude en hacer cualquier pregunta que pueda tener acerca de las vacunas o vaya al sitio web de la Academia Estadounidense de Pediatr\u00eda para obtener m\u00e1s informaci\u00f3n sobre este tema.

\u00bfC\u00f3mo funcionan las vacunas?\u00a0\"\"<\/h1>\n

Cuando su hijo(a) se infecta, su cuerpo depende de su sistema inmunol\u00f3gico para combatir el organismo invasor. Los gl\u00f3bulos blancos se activan y comienzan a crear prote\u00ednas llamadas anticuerpos que localizan el agente infeccioso y crean una contraofensiva. Eventualmente, el sistema inmunitario y sus anticuerpos pueden ayudar a detener muchas infecciones y ayudar a su hijo(a)(a) a recuperarse.
Las vacunas dependen de anticuerpos para combatir las infecciones. Cuando se administra la vacuna, el sistema inmunitario del cuerpo la detecta y reacciona, fabricando anticuerpos contra el material de la vacuna. Estos anticuerpos permanecen en el cuerpo y est\u00e1n listos para responder si un organismo infeccioso real ataca. A veces, una dosis de una vacuna es suficiente para proteger a una persona durante toda la vida, pero otras necesitan m\u00e1s de una dosis.<\/span><\/p>\n
